Our motto is ~ Beautiful Pets as Smart and Loving as a Dog only Smaller ~

We are an experienced Rattery based in Cranbourne, Victoria, Australia.
We are a registered non-profit business and the only Rattery in Australia with a government registered
business number ( RBN ) and a government australian business number ( ABN ).

We do
NOT sell rats as pet food. We also do Not sell to pet shops. We do Not mass breed.

Live rats can damage your snake or lizard as a frightened rat will struggle and fight for its life.
*The reason I mention this, is that I have had a few people contact me asking for live rats to feed to either their
snake or lizard* - its also illegal in Australia to live feed.

If you can not keep your rats and your looking for information on giving them up please read our
Rescues page

We are currently not taking in rescues at the moment.

We also no longer have a waiting list,
as from 2010 babies available will be limited to what I don't keep myself.

I am not a pet shop - I don't normally have rats available right away -
Most often there will be a wait of 6 to 10 weeks before a baby is available.
As from conception to birth takes 3 weeks then its another 6 weeks before babies are old enough to
leave the Rattery.
But a male and female can be together for a week or 2 before a conception will even take.

I have a Phone Phobia, so please don't ask for me to call you. All contact is via email.

If you have stumbled on this site by accident and are now thinking
' yuck who would want a dirty rat as a pet? '

Let me just say.. you are not alone in thinking this way.. Sadly the rat has gotten a bad reputation over the
years as a vicious, dirty, disease carrying, nasty animal.. but that is so far from the truth..

Pet rats are Highly Intelligent.. able to learn their names and come when called, able to learn many tricks,
including fetching a ball, jumping through a hoop, even walking on a lead
*although I would suggest doing
that in the safety of your home*

They are very loyal, clean and loving and make wonderful pets and family members.  In fact they are just
as clean as Cats or Dogs and you can actually get more infection from a dog or cat bite than you can
from a rat bite.

Please check out our
Rat Care section, or our FAQ section.

If you wish to get a rat from us but can not get to us we do deliver around Victoria on weekends for an
added petrol fee.

We no longer send our rats interstate. We do on rare occasions travel to Sydney by car and so we can
deliver between Melbourne and Sydney and we charge a small fee of $30- for this service, and with over
15 years experience with rats they are just as happy and safe going with us in the car as they are on a
plane, maybe more so because the are used to us.

If you're interested in adopting a baby from us available babies will be put on the litters page when they
are
4 - 6 weeks old and ready to go to their new home. Email Us to reserve a particular baby from the list.

We breed for temperament and health before colour, marking or coat type.
Health though is something that no Rattery owner can guarantee as rats are susceptible to a few health
problems such as chest problems, sneezing and colds. All rats are born with Myco which can be
triggered by stress.

What we breed includes....
Rex, Double Rex, Patchwork Rex, Silky, Carasilk, and Standard coats in markings such as....
DownUnder, Hooded, Berkshire, Self, Irish, Blazed, Varieberk, Bareback, Capped, Patched.

In colours such as....
Silvered Black, Silver Dove, Silver Fawn, Dove, Mink, Champagne, PEW, Buff, Cinnamon, Agouti,
Argent, Topaz, BEW.

Now and then we may have other colours or types not mentioned above such as Dwarf rats and Manx
rats and BEW rats.  Although at the moment both manx and dwarf rats are proving very difficult to breed.
With the dwarf rats the problem is that dwarf rats can have whole litters of normal sized babies and can
take 4 to 6 months before you will know if a rat is going to be a dwarf. But a normal sized rat from a dwarf
line still carries the dwarf gene and so may produce a dwarf baby or two in their own litters especially if
bred with a dwarf or dwarf carrier.

I have heard rumours over the last year or so about certain rat types being sickly and not long lived.

I would just like to say that I have had Dwarf rats, Silky rats and Rex rats, who have all lived to be over 2
years old and none of them had been sickly, deformed or unhealthy in any way.

We do have a forum linked to this site so that people can post and ask questions and just share their
love of rats.. I hope you will take a look and join us there.
You will need to make a minimum of 10 posts before you given full access to the whole forum, but thats
easily achieved.

If you are after information about rats you can get it from the forum or please feel free to email me and I
will answer any questions I can.
