Rescues

Our motto is ~ Beautiful Pets as Smart and Loving as a Dog only Smaller ~

We are currently NOT taking in any more rescues at the
moment, but we hope to start recueing again in the future.

Rescue rats are ones that are no longer able to stay with their owner.
Not all rescues have been abused, some just need new homes because their owner is no longer able to
keep them. Most rescues are been 6 months and 2 years of age.

If you are no longer able to look after your rats for any reason but dont know what to do with them, please
give us a call, send a fax or email us, as we are more than happy to take in your rats and find them new
homes, although it would be nice if you could give us a donation to help out with care as some rats may
end up being here for a year while they are looking for a home.

Please don't dump your unwanted babies on us.
* I mention this due to the fact we have had people dump babies on us after having an unexpected litter or after
breeding and then not being able to find homes for all 8, 12 or 16 babies - understand that it can be just as hard for
us to find homes as it is for you. *

To give up your rat, all you need to do is supply us with as much information as you can, such as..

The more information that you can give us about your rat the easier it will be for us to find a new home.

Giving up your rat to a rat rescuer when you are no longer able to keep it is a really kind and good thing to
do as it gives that rat the chance to find another loving home.

Never let a pet rat go free if you dont want it as pet rats would never survive as they are too trusting and
loving.

We do not always have rescue rats available, but if you would like to give a rescue rat a loving home,
there are sometimes rescues available from other Ratteries and we would be more than happy to try and
help you find a rescue rat from these other Ratteries.

Rescue Rats although normally older do make great pets and also need a loving forever home
just like the cute little babies do.

The $10- to $15- adoption donation fee we charge is just to cover some of the money we have used for
things like food, bedding and vet check ups. If we could do it for free we would but sometimes it can
costs us over $200- a fortnight to look after all the rats here including rescues who can sometimes be
here for months and months, sometimes even a year or more..

So $10- or $15- is pretty good for an adoption fee.. :-)

If you wish you can also donate food such as  jars or tins of baby food, bags of rolled oats, fresh fruit or
veggies, bread rolls, anything that you can think of will help us out..

If you have paypal you can make a donation to help us out if you like.

Most rescues rats are well handled and very friendly when they are given over to be rehomed.

Rescue rats are just as friendly and loving as the Dog / Puppy / Cat / Kitten that you adopt from the
RSPCA or local animal shelter.

No rat is rehomed unless they are friendly and loving and rats are matched up to your needs as much as
possible.

So say you need a rat or two that will be good with children - well we will then make sure that the rescue
rat you are matched up with is gentle, sweet and isnt nervous around loud noises or child.

So please contact us if you are looking for a rat, and are willing to take an older one, and we will try to
help you out.

We normally dont have desexed rescue rats, unless they were desexed by their owners previously.

- The Meaning Of Rescue -

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed.
All nicely curled up in my warm new bed,

I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget,
There is so much to carry --- So much to regret.

Hmmm... Yes, there it is, right on the top,
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my hammock hides Fear and Shame.

As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave ---
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough --- for they didn't want me.

Will you add to my baggage? Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things --- And take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage, to never repack?

I pray that you do --- I'm so tired you see,
But since I do come with baggage --- Will you still want me?

We Currently Have No Rescues
as we are not taking any in at the
moment
.
  • Where you got the rat originally.
  • How old the rat is, or at least how long you have had it for.
  • The rats name and sex.
  • Any problems it has, such as aggression.
  • Any sickness that it has had, such as sneezing or wheezing.
  • If its female then we need to know if it has had any litters in
the past or if there is a chance that it may be pregnant at the
    time you give it up.
  • The reason for you giving the rat up.
  • Also whether you have any cages or other stuff for your rat
that you can also give up with your rat.
